General Entertainment
Can't imagine how many movie stories went by when I couldn't post them, so I'm just doing recent stuff.
The Daniel Craig / Rachel Weisz / Naomi Watts supernatural thriller Dream House has only gotten 1 positive review out of 20 on Rottentomatoes.
Meanwhile, Deadline is predicting the Sony released religious drama Courageous will take the #1 spot this weekend. Yeah, I haven't heard of it either, but it's from the people who brought you the surprise Kirk Cameron starring hit Fireproof.
New Line is finally getting around to rebooting Mortal Kombat, which will be directed by the guy who did the recent web series. It won't, however, be connected to the web series.
The new cover of EW features a crappy photoshop pic of the assembled Avengers in which Mark Ruffalo is making a rape face. Can't post outside links apparently, so go look it up I guess.
The new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Rooney Mara, is wanted for the female lead in Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy.
Sony wants to stop paying for 3D glasses, but theater owners ain't about to pay for them and don't want to pass on the price to the consumer - so Sony is likely stuck.
Nightline is now beating Jay and Dave in total viewers and the demos.
The most recent plot synopsis released for Prometheus pretty much confirms the leaked storyline from a while back.
Stephen King is writing the sequel to The Shinning he's been talking about for a while. It will see an adult Danny working at a hospital helping people pass on. Then some psychic vampires come after him. Or something.
Moneyball was good, not great.

Im a baseball fan and I could care less about Moneyball. The entire concept was a farce and it didnt work at all.

Re: General Entertainment
The movie would have you believe it did with the A's 20 game winning streak and the Red Sox World Series win, but yeah - I could care less. The main thing for me was the affable comedy sprinkled throughout the movie. Pitt is very good and so is Jonah Hill.
I was thinking that this is the first time I've really seen Pitt give kind of a Robert Redford style movie star performance. Then I watched a little of Butch and Sundance a while later and man - Pitt and Today's stars are nowhere near guys like Redford and Newman.

Re: General Entertainment
Moneyball cannot take any credit for the Red Sox world series victory. Just because one guy was there when it was happening means squat. The Red Sox won because they have more money than anybody but the Yankees. They havent used anything associated with Moneyball. The Athletics are one of the worst organizations in sports. They have to do what they do.Rich Fingerland wrote:The movie would have you believe it did with the A's 20 game winning streak and the Red Sox World Series win, but yeah - I could care less. I agree about Pitt and Newman and Redford. Maybe as he ages he will get there.

Looks like Kurt Russell may be replacing Costner in Django Unchained.
Personally I can understand Costner deciding against it - not sure I'd want to be in that head space either.

Re: General Entertainment
Rooney Mara in Oldboy is ok, I guess. Seems a little similar to Dragon Tattoo though in terms of being an edgy, highly demanding remake of an acclaimed foreign language film.

Still can't post links - so head to /Film and look for an article revealing shocking information that Jason Statham might be boarding Fast 6 and 7.
And the info about JL having shot the ending is wrong of course - he pre-vised it.

Werner Herzog is going to play the villain in the Tom Cruise thriller One Shot. Weird, but awesome.

I tried to watch Melancholia... but it was just so slow and melodramatic. It was like someone took the last few minutes of Remember Me and stretched it out to two and a half hours. I skipped ahead to the scene where the Earth plows into another planet and then shut it off.

James called it - as an experiment, Tower Heist will be offered On Demand 3 weeks after its theatrical release for $59.99 in two select markets - Atlanta and Oregon. The end is beginning.

Yeah, I am only an hour in and bored as hell. It's beautifully shot (particularly those opening 4-5 minutes). I've heard Dunst's nude scene is amazing, though. Did you see that part?

Cinemark is saying they'll boycott and won't screen the film in their theaters. This is typically where the studios back down, but we'll see if that happens here.

At least Bale actually grew his beard. I think they borrowed this one from the Gettysburg collection.

Re: General Entertainment
Director Pete Travis has been kicked out of post production on Dredd and writer Alex Garland will finish up.

Charles Napier - The Blues Brothers (the bluegrass band leader), Silence of the Lambs (the guard who gets beaten to death with the night stick), Rambo: First Blood Part II (Murdoch), The Cable Guy (cop), Duke Phillips on The Critic, various Simpsons guest shots, and many, many more - has passed away at age 75.
---
Favs, Orci, Superman Returns writer Michael Dougherty and... Seth Green are writer a "presidential procedural" for ABC. Huh?
---
A Filipino man has been getting plastic surgery to look more like Superman
---
Before B&R bombed, Schumacher was working on a 5th Batman where he wanted Nic Cage for Scarecrow and Nicholson to return as the Joker.
---
Lars von Trier is being investigated by police in France for making pro-Nazi statements that were probably jokes.

Going to see Blackthorn tonight with my dad. Its stars Sam Shepherd as Butch Cassidy. The assumption is he and Sundance survived the gunfight in Bolivia (sundance died right after)Its a story about what happens as he ages. Getting solid reviews so we'll see.

Re: General Entertainment
Aaron Eckhart as Frankenstein's monster... kind of.
I FRANKENSTEIN is a modern-day epic: Frankenstein’s creature, ADAM, has survived to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation. Making his way to a dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans. As writer/director, Stuart Beattie said, “Mary Shelly’s story is about the creation of the first human being. This is the story about that being becoming human.”
Vantage Point was awful, so I'm not surprised...but that's really bad. I still like the 95 version and would bet it will remain the superior Dredd adapation.
By the way, Garland is angling for a full co-Director credit as well.

Don't forget The Goods, he was awesome in that.
